I hope you are well.
Thank you again for a fantastic Christmas lunch this year – the team really enjoyed themselves and the food and service was excellent as always.
"Evening with Friends"
Have been lucky enough to eat in many fine restaurants over the years and I have to say Forbury's is up with the very best.spent the evening as a group of ten and all of us were blown away by the food, comments such as best venison ever tasted and this is how a steak should be were a couple of the many compliments.
I would like to add a special thank you to the wonderful young waitress that looked after us she really should be used as a model for how diners should be cared for.
A great evening and will be returning soon.
“The best lunch in Reading for a long while”
It had been a long time since my wife and I had visited Forbury's Restaurant. Why had we wasted all this time? Our "Market Lunch" option was absolutely excellent - with no reservations. My wife had Ham Hock Terrine accompanied by a sweet piccalilli, followed by an excellent creamy wild mushroom risotto. I had Chicken Livers on Toast. The title does not do justice to the dish comprised of perfectly cooked livers in a sumptuous cram sauce. I followed this with a fillet of Sea Bream resting on a layer of the the most perfect sprouting broccoli which in turn rested upon magnificent crushed new potatoes in butter with a touch of lemon. Desert - shared between us was - a beautifully rich crime caramel. At around £30 for 2 courses or 30 for three courses of food of this quality it was an amazing bargain. The selection of wine by the glass is limited but the picpout and the shiraz were both good quality if a little pricey at about £8.25.
The style of restaurant is modern fine dining with extremely professional service.
As mentioned, we went at lunchtime on a Saturday. The restaurant which is somewhat remote from the centre was empty except for one other cover. I guess on a weekday, or an evening, it would be a different story. It certainly deserves to be.
Well done Forbury's Restaurant, cant wait until out next opportunity.
Went here for a birthday dinner and it was fab. The staff were attentive and helpful throughout. The place is light and airy without being too bright and the bar area certainly looked inviting for a drink, although we had been for drinks elsewhere prior to coming for dinner.
The menu had a wide selection of food and covered most possible tastes. The food was very good and we had to start salt & pepper squid with oxtail tempura and Seafood Scotch Egg which were both yummy. For mains we shared a Chateaubriand which was divine, although next time no starter before. The beef was cooked to perfection and the flavour was superb.
Overall a great night and dinner.
“Awesome food, great for a quiet business lunch”
I experienced a great business meeting here recently thanks to the excellent food and service. We all went directly for the main course due to time constraints - my lemon sole was cooked just right and my colleague's venison was also very good. The accompanying veggies were also steamed perfectly, nice & crunchy. Service was attentive without being intrusive, didn't have to ask for water refills even once. Definitely a place worth visiting again.
